The main organisers of the 11th EUSBSR Annual Forum are the City of Turku and the Council of the Baltic Sea States, in collaboration with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland.
“Turku has a long history in working to advance cooperation in the Baltic Sea Region, especially in the fields of environmental protection and sustainability. We are honoured to host the EUSBSR Annual Forum for the second time – especially in these exceptional circumstances when the Forum this year will be held online from Turku, for the first time. For us this is a sign of trust and appreciation for the persevering work done by Turku,” says Mayor of Turku Minna Arve.
The aim of the Forum is to form innovative constellations to find common approaches, which will contribute to the three objectives of the EUSBSR: Save the Sea, Connect the Region, and Increase Prosperity.
There are many different uses and users of the Baltic Sea Region. The viewpoints of different users have to be combined while also protecting the sea and the surrounding ecosystems. There is plenty of work to do to find the right means for combining the different viewpoints of various actors in the region. Towards a Decade of Innovation and Sustainability – even during a pandemic
The theme of this year’s Annual Forum is Towards a Decade of Innovation and Sustainability. The main topics of evolve around EUSBSR’s main objectives: Save the Sea, Connect the Region, and Increase Prosperity. Along with the moderators, high-level speakers and panellists lead the conversation, and the audience is invited to take part using interactive tools, for example asking questions, taking part in polls and chatting with other participants. The Mobile Application offers an opportunity to use networking tools, watch the live programme and visit the Virtual Networking Village.
The first section of the programme will explore the cooperation for Innovation and Sustainability; in addition, lessons learnt from Corona crisis are explored. The second part focuses on concrete examples of cooperation within the EUSBSR, and the third on the future: what will the EUSBSR cooperation look like in the next 10 years?
